      Hi Moz!

      I've seen a big drop in Domain Authority 31 > 22 recently.

I need a plan of what to sort out first, here are the points I know we need to improve:

      • Page Speed
      • Quality content - guides, blogs, videos
      • Better UX experience to improve page engagement
      • Backlinks - quality earned links & improvement of presence on social media

      This is our site http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/

I am the only SEO, with a small content team - who only really work on adding new products to the site. Our dev team are in France and we can be restricted by them.

But I'm worried & I need a plan of what to tackle first to help improve this.

We also saw keywords drop out in March - I'm assuming after Fred, some keywords aren't ones I would worry about, but then some are - for example -

http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/dollies-load-movers-door-skates this page ranked at position 6 for Dollies - now dropped out altogether.

Any ideas are welcome - help 🙂

          Becky,

Has domain authority rebounded? The last index I saw the domain authority rise for many of my clients. There were more backlinks introduced in the latest moz update.

            Hi,

            Thank you for the response.

The irish site isn't managed very well, but I'll review the french - dev team are based in France and this is why.

I am going to look at the content and backlinks, at the moment the onsite content is my focus, but I am trying to think of valuable content for readers.

I have been working on user guides, but ultimately this doesn't help rankings of pages which convert highly.

I'd like to improve rankings of category pages, but as these contain product listings, there isn't much appetite for showing content other than products...

In your list of 4 items, 2 are more dev focused (though the UX designs can be done without devs initially). So I'd take a look at bringing someone in who can at least put some wireframes together for you for the UX side of things.

Quality content and backlinks _could_be done by you, though it depends entirely on your needs with regards to content; are you looking at implementing product specific landing pages, for example, or just improving product descriptions? Is there a reason you would add a blog to your website; does it have any potential reader base?

              • On your Irish domain, why do you have French in the page title? And why are there so many issues with how things are displayed? Example: http://www.keyonline.ie/en/kie/castors---wheels

Domain Authority has been dropping due to the MOZ index not including links that were once included within their index. Check you link numbers and see if they match up to what you saw when you were at 31. I bet this is the issue. I have a few clients with very small link profiles, the last three moz indexes left their links out and the domain authority went from 10 to 1. However they still rank for the keywords.

It is usual because if you Google Fred update, many webmasters have shown huge ranking dropped.

Fred update is giving more priority to high quality content and authoritative linking. As a result, sites low-quality content and backlinks 've analysed SEO aspects dropping issue.

Update high quality content on your website and try to get authoritative back linking, this will help in getting DA back.

Linking from high ranking sub domain pages to less ranking main domain pages to benefit latter

Hi all, We have our product guide pages on sub domain which are years old, so have some backlinks and high ranking for the beand related queries. Now we created new guide pages on our main website and we want these new pages to rank top beating the old pages from sub domain. Again we can't deindex or rel canonical to solve the issue as there are some part of users still using the old pages. We are planning to give a link from every old page of sub domain to same new page on main domain. Will this linking increases the authority of new pages technically and helps in ranking better? Like we give a link to "Moz guide 1" page to "Moz guide 2" page to rank latter better. Thanks

Drop in Organic Traffic for Homepage and Branded terms but Steady in Rankings and According to WMT.

I am stumped. I have been researching for over two days now. Our homepage organic traffic YoY is down approx. 25%. However, rank has not changed according to Conductor, Bing and Google WMT. Impressions have gone up according to both search engines and we rank now for more keywords in top 3 than we did last year. Both WMTs' present a pretty healthy picture. No insignificant indexing issues, Error URLs & blocked resources are down, daily page crawls are higher than ever, etc. I drilled into Google Analytics from a few different view points. The closest I got to an answer was I saw huge out-liars YoY in browsers and browser versions.  We saw significant differences in organic traffic YoY from IE 11, 9 ,10, 8 and 7.  Android Browser 31, 32 and Safari 6 and 7.  I tested our homepage and search results in all of these, and found no issues.  Yet, GA reports 50K+ differences  YoY. My only thought is it is perhaps a GA attribution error? And/or browsers defaulting organic traffic to direct or other?  Yet, our direct traffic is up but does not correlate with as much as we are down.  Any tips on where to look next would be extremely helpful!

Links from high Domain authority sites

I have a relatively uncompetitive niche ranking around number 6 for my keywords.  Would getting a few links from some Moz  DA 80-90 and DA 90-100  sites help my rankings a lot? Some of the pages linking to me  from these sites might be deep in the site pretty far away from the home page with pagerank of "unranked" or a grayed out bar and these pages linking to me might not have many links at all other than from the internal links of the site itself and would have a Moz PA of 10 or 20.  Would these pass much pagerank or authority to my site or would they not be worth going after? These links to my site would be in context on a blog. Thanks mozzers!

Sudden Page Rank Drop for Weight Loss Camp

My site BalanceME.com has been performing really well and continually climbs more and more but in the last 7 days we have had a drop this last week.  We went from #2 for weight loss camp to #6, and  even further on other terms. It is mid May and I cannot find any other explanation for the sudden drop.  I am hoping someone could give me some sort if idea what could possibly be the answer.  Recently we have had two press releases go out, target for keywords, and also installed images that navigate to new pages on the site.  There have been few additions to the site, and nothing can explain the drop. Other companies in our group have not had issues with recent drops, and we use the same practices with the other organizations. Thank you for your time

80-90% drop in visits after Panda/EMD update - now what?

Hi everyone, Had my first wonderful experience with an algorithm update. Business was doing great - about 90-100 visitors a day down to about 12-15 from Sept 29th to current. Our domain is www.hamiltonscarservice.com which I don't think exactly qualifies for an exact match but may be close enough (car service is one of our keywords). I am more likely to think its related to the Panda 20 update. I haven't changed the site at all lately so I was wondering what tips you guys may have going forward. The site isn't perfectly optimized (which is where you guys come in) but when I first set it up it worked great so I mainly focused on backlinks from that point on. Now evidently this has caught up with me. Any suggestions are appreciated - thanks! 09cSe.png

Anyone else noticing that Bing & Yahoo are delivering widely different results in past week. Prior to that after they started using Bing SE it seemed like they were identical, but no more. I am using RankTracker and getting this on several web sites.

Which is the better option in 2012, sub-domains or sub-directories?

Pinnion offers online software for surveys and trivia games. Information about our product is at www.pinnion.com and then interested users create their accounts at secure.pinnion.com. The surveys that they create link back to secure.pinnion.com, so we would obviously like to gain whatever SEO benefits we can from that structure. We've been advised that moving from secure.pinnion.com to www.pinnion.com/secure would be the best way to accomplish this. A 2009 post by Rand seems to support that POV, but then a 2011 post over SEObook claims that everything has changed 100% since then. There was a little conversation here and here in Q&A last Fall that touched on this subject, but nothing really definitive. Would love to get thoughts on this subject based on the collective wisdom today. Thanks.

                    Plural vs non-plural domain name

I'm sure this question has been answered and asked a 1,000 different ways but what would be the best domain name to use in the long term (2 years +)? The plural versions (examples.com) which has a decent domain authority and is ranking 1st in Google search results yet has less search volume or the singular version (example.com) that has no current SEO value for the search term that we'd like to target however the singular version of the keyword has a much higher search volume? so basically will it be better to have the exact match that has more volume or the plural form that has better rankings after 2 years of doing SEO for each domain? My guess is that using (examples.com) with the better domain authority and tightening the grip on its dominance in Google will still be more effective than having the exact match domain with more search volume for that keyword while performing the same amount of SEO even after two years. Any suggestions?
