LinkedIn & B2B Marketing/Brand Authority: How Useful Is It?
-
Hi Folks,
I'm in the process of drawing up some detailed step by step marketing and content strategy guidelines and I'm currently researching LinkedIn as a platform and the potential benefits for B2B marketing on it and building brand authority.
I'm coming across some conflicting data regarding how useful it is.
Does anyone have any experience or opinions on the viability of LinkedIn for B2B marketing and building brand authority? A couple of questions would be:
- Is it a viable B2B marketing platform?
- Is it a good place to build brand and industry authority?
- What techniques would you concentrate on over others?
Any advice on the subject would be great. Thanks, folks.
Regards
Gareth

It would depend on the type of business you offer and how much you use LinkedIn - same as any other Social Media platform I guess.
We have used it and seen some good traffic come through to our website, hard to tell how much business it has given us directly but we use it to interact with other businesses and have had some good feedback from it.
Joining 'Groups' and sharing content to them has proven to be quite successful but be specific with the groups that you join as the content you are sharing will have to be relevant.
Best thing to do in your situation would be to trial it for a couple of months to get a feel for what your target audience would be from LinkedIn and how relevant they would be to the business. Try communicating with the audience in different ways throughout the trial, maybe do some split testing to see what gets the best response.

Which site as main site? B2C or B2B?
We're currently running two separate sites, one being the "main" page for B2B customers and the other being an online shop targeting B2C customers. Site structure looks like this:
[sonnenschirme.at](sonnenschirme.at) = main page / B2B

sonnenschirme.at/shop = shop / B2C
We're also building a new shop with Shopify which will replace the current shop and it's going to provide a really great user experience (AR models of products etc). Naturally, there are a lot more B2C customers than there are B2B customers (we sell sun umbrellas). The B2C customer type spends around 150€ typically, whereas a B2B customer needs consulting and will spend upwards 10k. B2B is responsible for about 90% of revenue. Both customer types seem to search for the term "sonnenschirme" which is basically just "sun umbrella". Before the shop was accessible at a subdirectory (/shop), it was available on a different domain (not even subdomain), which was really bad for SEO. Once we consolidated both websites into one we've seen a big spike in traffic, due to products etc. of the shop ranking well. As pretty much all competing companies are B2C companies who fight for a share of the "sonnenschirme" keyword, we've been unsure if it wasn't better to have the shop as the main page and the B2B page in a subdirectory. So basically:
sonnenschirme.at/subdirname = B2B page

sonnenschirme.at = main page / B2C
But then again B2B generates much more revenue (at least right now). What do you guys think? I'm anxious about "just trying" because it could hurt traffic badly.0 -
Optimising for terms which are not in line with brand guidelines
Hi Fellow Mozzers, Happy New Year! - I have a client who run runs a leisure/recreation centre. The centre went through a change of name a couple of years ago. from XXXX recreation centre to xxxx youth and community centre. It is part of a wider organisation and so they have a 'content section dedicated to their centre. On the main landing page we have referred to the centre by both terms - however it seems from GA Search Console stats that the general public still refer to the centre by its old name. The manager would like the old term removed but I wonder whether this would impact on the SEO effectiveness of the page or not? Any Comments would be gratefully received.

Google+ SERP Visibility For Non Branded Keywords
Hi, I've noticed that a competitors Google+ box is appearing on the right hand side of the Google UK SERPs for a non-branded keyword (open air balustrade). Please see attached image. I've always thought that the Google+ box would only be displayed in the SERPS for branded keywords. How is this Google+ box appearing for non-branded keywords? How can we improve our chances of our Google+ box being shown instead? Many thanks in advance, Lee. vDm914D

Community Discussion: Do you agree that brand recognition has an empirical impact on organic search rankings?
And could hard metrics — such as search queries, citations, traffic, and click-through rates — influence organic search rankings? Tom Coad “StickyEyes” tackles both these questions in this post for YouMoz. Take a peek at his research, and let us know how it compares to your own findings. If you haven't done any research yourself along these lines, I'd love to hear your answers to these same questions based on your more casual observations and analysis of the brands you monitor in the SERPs.

B2B > Social Channels
Hi I work in ecommerce selling mainly B2B - I wanted to find out if anyone could recommend one social channel they've found worked well. We're a generalist, so sell a huge amount of different products, like office supplies, furniture etc to companies. We currently aren't really present on social and this is something I want to push - however with resource I think we'd only be able to focus on one at this point. I was looking at Facebook or Pinterest? Thank you

What is The Time/Cost For SEO In Rebranding A Large Site
From an SEO agency perspective. What would be the estimated man hours and hard cost to rebrand a large site (1000+pages)? And all that would go into it, like 301 redirects and etc.? I have a pretty good idea, of what it would take and how perilous it could be from an SEO perspective. Because of anchor text / 301 redirects / organic potential traffic loss and etc. I just don't know the man hours and hard cost would be.

Can we use SEOMOZ to get insights/data on the members of a twitter list?
It would be so useful if we could get insights into the members of a twitter list in the same way we can get statistics on the people we search through the "search twitter bio" options (following/followers/RTs/Social Authority/etc). This is possible through the twitter api but it limits to 20 list member which is useless. Anyone know of a solution? Thanks!
