SEO & App
-
Hi MOZ Community,
We have a client that is currently ranking well for SEO. We are nearing completion of an app for the client.
There is a fair bit of content that is the same across both the app and website.
I have three questions;
-
Do we want the app to get indexed?
-
How do we avoid duplicate content on the website & app?
-
Do we need both URL's to be the same or different (for website and app)?
-
-
-
It depends on the nature of the app and its purpose. If the app provides unique content or functionality that adds value to search engine users, then having it indexed could be beneficial for attracting organic traffic. However, if the app simply mirrors the content of the website without offering anything substantially different, you may want to avoid indexing it to prevent duplicate content issues.
-
To avoid duplicate content issues, ensure that the content on both the website and the app is unique and offers value to users. If certain content needs to be shared between the website and the app, consider implementing canonical tags on the website to indicate the preferred source of the content for search engines. Additionally, use the rel="alternate" tag in the app to point to the corresponding web pages, indicating to search engines that the content is available in multiple formats.
-
It's generally recommended to have separate URLs for the website and the app, as they serve different purposes and may have different structures. However, you can establish a connection between the website and the app using deep linking. Deep linking allows you to link directly to specific content within the app from the website and vice versa, enhancing the user experience and improving cross-platform visibility.
In summary, consider the unique value proposition of the app, ensure content uniqueness, and establish a coherent cross-platform linking strategy to optimize SEO performance while avoiding duplicate content issues.

Blocking Standard pages with Robots.txt (t&c's, shipping policy, pricing & privacy policies etc)
Hi I've just had best practice site migration completed for my old e-commerce store into a Shopify environment and I see in GSC that it's reporting my standard pages as blocked by robots.txt, such as these below examples. Surely I don't want these blocked ? is that likely due to my migrators or s defaults setting with Shopify does anyone know? : t&c's shipping policy pricing policy privacy policy etc So in summary: Shall I unblock these? What caused it Shopify default settings or more likely my migration team? All Best Dan

Google Analytics & Google Sheets
Hi guys, I'm looking to use google analytics google sheets extension to pull data into a google sheet with metrics from other tools e.g. semrush, moz, etc. From my understanding with google analytics google sheet extension its designed to run reports and doesn't really allow you to add other metrics. Basically what i'm trying to do is this: https://www.useloom.com/share/c1e42bfa60bd46fca2b1120018969ce8 Any suggestions/advice on how to do this would be great. Cheers.

SEO Keyword Research
Is there a way to insert Google API into Excel? I want to have a search volume column that would automatically fill out with query Another question is that I have a list of keywords in one column in Excel with another column that have search volume. I then go and do some research on keyword groups with a grouping tool but if this tool doesn't find a group for a keyword it removes it. So then when I want to copy and past keywords and match keyword columns in excel that already exist with search volume I have to do it manually because some rows are missing. Is there a way this could be done automatically so that when I paste it in the column with keywords it automatically finds that the current column exists and adds a group column ?

Whats the difference between Trackbacks & Network referrals within Google analytics social media reporting? I'd like to specifically understand why a link to site i'm working on withing this post:
http://huddled.co.uk/huddled-interviews-nicola-schaefer-from-liverpool-fc-e-l-i-t-e-s-8335/ is classed as Trackback & not a Network refferral 😞 Illustrated here is the link thats being recorded as a track back:

Understanding Source/Medium & Conversion Paths
I had always thought that the Traffic Source/Medium in all sections of GA shows last interaction, and the only way to see indirect conversions was through Multi-Channel Functions/Conversion Paths. However, the screenshots - shows transactions and conversion paths that resulted from an email campaign we've done recently. As you can see on the conversion path screenshot, there were 5 conversions (1 conversion type selected - ecommerce/transactions) 3 direct conversion or last interaction and 2 assisted conversions. However - according to the transactions screenshot - there are 5 transactions, all show up as email. I would have thought, that the transaction page would have only shown 3 email conversions - for the 3 direct/last interactions conversions seen in the conversion path. Any idea why this would happen? Was my initial understanding of traffic sources wrong? O7v3cTj.jpg aAPhd8e.jpg

Why am i getting a flux of increase in Impressions on my site & then it decreases
They guys. Hope everyone is having a great week. I wanted to get some inputs from you guys in regards to what is happening to my site that i quite don't understand. Every month or so i get this influx of high visibility with impressions for my keywords and then the impressions go away but my rankings still keep going up. Has anyone experienced this before and can give me some insight on what is going . Why do i get such a big jump and then it dies off only to return again a month later or 2 months later. I know you guys want probably some info from my site or from analytics or webmaster tools so i will provide as much as i can . For now i have included a screen shot. Google SEO - Where have I disappeared to?
Okay, so first off Google, I hate you. Before I signed up for SEOMoz, my website was hitting page 9 and page 10 for some ultra difficult keywords. After spending a month using Hubspot and SEOMoz, I finally made it on to page 2 of google, for said 'impossible to rank high' keywords, which I was super happy with. But last week, I login to find that I have disappeared off the top 100 pages of Google for about 100 of my top keywords!!!! What the hell did I do wrong? I tried to please Google, but my website is still indexed, but just not ranked at all for any of my top keywords. The last thing I did before I disappeared overnight was add "follow me" buttons to all my pages and "share this" buttons to all my blogs. Could this be the problem? My website and main keyword is Process Server Is there anyone who could help push me in the right direction? I have no idea what I did wrong. 😕 Martyn

Help with local SEO strategy for service industries
Here is the scenario I often wonder about: My client's tree removal service is ranking in #1 in local search for
Reporting & Analytics | | MozMan2
"tree removal town state." His Google Places account is set for a 30 mile radius. He has lots of directory listings and positive reviews. Some inbound links as well. The same client is ranking #1 in organic listing for "tree removal county state" ...I chose to target the county for organic listings because the client was dominating local search for the town. My reasoning: I thought, Google local search would bring all of the local specific searches for "tree removal town state" and organic listings would bring the broader searches for "tree removal county state." That is exactly what's happening and stats show there are some visitors coming to the site searching with the county name. Not a ton of traffic but a lot of keyword variations using the county name. The bulk of the traffic comes from the his Google Places listing for the town the business is located in which is great. Dilemma: My client is not ranking in local search results for neighboring towns just a few miles away and certainly not ranking in organic listings for neighboring towns either because we are targeting the county. He has a long list of town names he services in the footer area and this does seem to help for organic search in neighboring towns with little competition. Broad Question: How can I optimize pages for the same services in neighboring towns without duplicating content. For example, the home page title tag and H1 reads:
Tree Removal, Tree Trimming, Stump Removal, County State It would be very easy to create identical pages with title tags and page headings for the different towns but that would undoubtedly create duplicate content and would look weird to someone browsing the site. Specific Questions: Should I put the town name where the business is located in the title tag even though the site already ranks #1 for that town in local search, without having the town in the title tag? Why not use this importunity for an area that we are not ranking for? Do I nix the county and state and try to insert another town or two in the title and H1? Ideally I would like to have this site rank well in local search for all of the neighboring towns. This may be too broad of a post, (it is my first one) but perhaps there are a few of you out there that can outline strategies that work for service industries like, lawn care, tree removal, landscaping, etc. Thanks for reading.0
