      Hi,
There is a question of my site that the number of linking domains has experienced a sudden decline - lost inbound links for around 100k in several days.
We are wondering the reason of this sudden decline, is it a common fluctation or is there some problems in our site? Thanks for your answers in advance!

        Hi,

Experiencing a sudden decline in the number of linking domains can be concerning, and it's essential to investigate the possible reasons behind this decline. Here are some potential factors to consider:
Algorithm Updates: Search engines like Google regularly update their algorithms, which can impact your site's rankings and the number of linking domains. Check if there have been any recent major algorithm updates.

Link Removal: Sometimes, website owners remove links to your site for various reasons. This could be due to broken links, content changes, or they may have decided to no longer endorse your content.

Penalties: If your site has violated search engine guidelines or received a penalty, this could result in a loss of linking domains. Review your site for any potential violations.

Expired Domains: If some of the linking domains were from expired or low-quality websites, they might no longer exist, leading to a drop in your link count.

Competitor Activity: Your competitors might have gained more links or engaged in negative SEO tactics to harm your backlink profile.

Technical Issues: Check your website for any technical issues that might be causing problems with tracking or displaying your backlinks.

Content Quality: Assess the quality and relevance of your site's content. High-quality content tends to attract more links naturally.

Manual Actions: Review your Google Search Console for any manual actions or messages from Google about your site.

        To investigate further:

Backlink Analysis: Use tools like Ahrefs, Moz, or SEMrush to conduct a thorough analysis of your backlinks. Identify which specific domains have been lost and if they were of high or low quality.

Contact Webmasters: Reach out to webmasters of the sites that previously linked to yours and inquire about the reason for the removal of links. It's possible that it was unintentional or due to a technical issue.

Monitor Trends: Keep an eye on your backlink profile over time. Fluctuations can be normal, but consistent declines may indicate a problem.
Content and SEO Audit: Review your site's content quality, on-page SEO, and technical SEO. Ensure your site is compliant with search engine guidelines.

Remember that fluctuations in backlinks can be common, but it's essential to monitor the situation and take appropriate action if necessary. Maintaining a high-quality website and regularly monitoring your backlink profile are key to a healthy SEO strategy.

Hope this helps in understanding and addressing the issue. If you have more specific information or questions, please feel free to share.

Do You Risk A Penalty From Local Paid Directories in 2022?

local seo link building paid directories paid links directories

Hi there, I have a client who wants to advertise in a local directory along the lines of "find your nearest plumber". The directory only has paid listings and they are follow links and they also mention your site or generated landing page may get a nice bump on google. Is there a risk that they may get a penalty for using this directory? The client wants to use it regardless of if it gives them an SEO boost but obviously wants to avoid any penalties at all costs. Thoughts on this? Thanks in advance

What steps should I follow after submitting disavow link list?

Hey Moz Team, This is Devesh Srivastava, you can call me Dev.
Recently there was an update from your side and that was pretty good. I have analyzed model factors regarding Moz 2.0. Though my DA score has been down to 36 from 52, I would still say that an update was really necessary. I have some questions which require some clarification or you can say a proper solution.
As of now, I have removed all the Spam links which were coming to my website (https://edugorilla.com) and I have submitted the disavow list to GSC but I would like to know how should I begin my link building strategy keep everything in mind. And now that, I have removed those spam links how would Moz or how should I tell Moz or Google that those have been removed so how soon can I get back to my previous DA score? I am very much confused with the link building strategy now. What steps should I follow after submitting a disavow list and would Moz stats will change after Google Disavowing those links? Can anyone answer my question?

Open Site Explorer and Expired Links?

Hi guys, I've been checking a few domains for SEO purposes and it appears that OSE is indexing a lot of links which no longer exist, this has been the case for over 6 months - does OSE cleanse expired links? As I'm sure they will be contributing to authority in the eyes of Moz?

Open Site Explorer doesn't show local directories or citation links?

Why is it that when I run a link analysis for my local business sites I don't see any links from Yelp, Google+, Facebook, any local citations? Regardless of them being follow or no follow isn't the hyperlink to a website from a Yelp profile considered a link? Same with any other local business directory? I know the company is listed on a few dozen because I can see it manually but it's not showing up in Moz? Why is it that all local directories and citations with website are omitted? And since it is not there, where is a good place to go to discover these things? I have tried whitespark. It was okay but honestly I wasn't terribly impressed. The data was good, the UI was just okay, but with smaller clients it was an initial check and then very occasional checks that needed to happen. We would go months without using it.

How can I use Open Site Explorer to Identify why my own URL's are appearing as inbound links

I'm a new member of Moz, and am trying to understand why I am seeing my sites URL's in my Inbound Link results in Open Site Explorer. There are quite a few, and they are all product category URL's that are generated by my stores database. This is not happening with .html URL's. Any thoughts?
