One of the sites that I work on has a high turnover of products as it sells cutting-edge technology products that quickly become outdated. For each product it is important to build a strong link profile as the competition is very high. I am therefore reluctant to remove pages once products have been discontinued (typically after 6-12 months). However, I do not want discontinued products to appear alongside the latest products as this will hinder the customer experience.

Is it worth me finding a way to archive the old products, so as to maintain the links that have been built up?

I would definately keep the url active. It is well worth your time.

I guess you could 301 it to your home page, but I would consider keeping the page up and changing the design. You could give the message that you specialize in cutting edge and product X is now obselete. Check out our other cool products: and give internal links to a dozen useful products. This will spread the link juice around to pages that need a boost rather than dumping it all on the homepage.

Don't forget to change up each retired page with different internal links so you don't get dinged for duplicate content.

That's my two cents. Wish you the best.

Does removing pages, so that they return 404, also remove any impact of spam links pointing to that page?

A site with numerous spam links pointing to an old forum. The forum is now removed so do I need any further action? thanks,

How can I find page 1 google keyword rankings for a certain page?

Not sure if someone has a tool for this yet or not... Say I have a page like this: http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Spokane.Painting.Pros.509-210-2799 and I would like to find out what keywords this page ranks for on google. Is there any tool that I can paste in that link and it would give me keywords that it ranks well for? Other than the SEO moz rank checker. It's not like I want to run a campaign just for links like that but I might want to build some links to citations like that so I can move those citations up in the rankings.

Why does Open Site Explorer list SEOMOZ forum links so high ?

When I was checking my back links in Open Sight Explorer I was surprised to see that because I have asked three questions recently here on the forum about my business website www.endeavourcottage.co.uk and they are now listed near the position 3 to 5 Of course I was not putting my business website link on their with the motivation of gaining some SEO benefits but when you get these no follow links do they have any usefulness in that direction? I read that say no follow links have no link juice so is any beneficial aspects? I It wouldn't be the ideal situation to encourage that kind of activity, but if they have no value at all why does Open Site Explorer list them? seo.JPG

            Open Site Explorer

Open Site Explorer has a link profile for my web page twice. pensacolarealestate.com and www.pensacolarealestate.com/ I don't know if I am getting the link juice from the weaker of the two (pensacolarealestate.com). If I am not, I desperately need it. I am ranked 3rd on my SERP which I have always ranked 1st. I need to go back to one asap. Please help me guys 🙂       I need as much of an explanation to accomplish my goal as you can muster! Get this solved and I will be a subscriber after my free period (lol).

Why are good authority links to my site not showing?

Hi, about a month ago, I obtained a couple of good authority external links into my client's site.  One of these is from a local government site, ie a .gov.uk website, which has a Domain Authority of 99 according to OSE and a page authority of 67. However, these links are not showing up in SEOmoz or OSE and the domain authority of my client's site has not changed.  Why do the links not show?  Surely a period of 5 weeks is long enough for these links to be indexed?

How to Add Content to a Product-Focused Site

I recently took over management of the SEO work for the following site: http://www.grovercorp.com/rings-and-seals/.  I want to do link building, but don't have a ton of experience with it. From what I've read, offering linkable content is the best way to get links.  However, this site -- like many in industrial B-2-B -- is focused primarily on promoting their products.  I'd like tto offer an article or add an infographic, but am not sure where I would put it?  It doesn't seem like the architecture offers a good place to add linkable content. Anyone have thoughts or suggestions?

Hey guys wondering which is more important getting links from authority sites or relevant sites?

basically a site that has really high authority but not that relevant or medium authority pages but relevant. an example an authority site with a mozrank of 80 or a relevant site of 20.

            Which Directory Sites to Choose?

Hi All I am a newbie to SEO and have a quick Q. Assuming that appropriate steps would be to; a) Ensure all onsite matters are are correct, title tags, meta descriptions, redirects, canonical issues. b) Submit to Directories c) Build Links I am approaching step b) Which Directories are worth submitting to? For those which require payment, how can I decide which are value for money or should I just use SEOMOZ list of links and assume that theyre worth the $50 - $100 if my higher ranking competitors have links from these directories. Also, can this be looked opon as grey/black hat 'buying of links'? Thank you Sean www.pretavoir.co.uk
