Happy Friday and St. Patrick's Day Eve, Moz Community!

As I got on here to ask this question, I saw my previous questions and remembered how awesome this community is.  I also can't wait until Mozcon, but I digress.

Anyway.  We are a travel agency.  One of my websites is to support the Destination Wedding part of our business.  Each of the weddings gets their own page where we list information about the event as well as a guest list of who all has booked to attend the wedding.  After the wedding, the page is automatically unpublished.  This leads to a TON of 404s on all of the past wedding pages.  Also, even the current pages I don't feel add a lot of SEO value to the site.

So.  What is the wisdom on how I should handle these pages.  I'm assuming I should no index them?  Also, does anyone have a compelling reason I should keep the pages active for some reason?  Just move them to a different section or something? (I'm really thinking not on this...but I'm open to discussion.)

Thank you times one million in advance.

Happy Friday and St. Patrick's Day Eve!

For handling past wedding pages on your travel agency website:

Noindex: Yes, it's a good practice to noindex the past wedding pages to prevent them from being crawled and indexed by search engines. This helps avoid unnecessary 404 errors and ensures your site focuses on current and relevant content.

Redirect: If there's a specific reason to retain the URLs or if you have relevant content to redirect users to, consider setting up 301 redirects from the past wedding pages to a relevant section or a consolidated page for archived events.

Archive Section: You could create an archive section for past weddings, keeping them accessible for those interested but not directly impacting your main SEO efforts. This way, users can find them if needed, but they won't clutter your main navigation or search results.

Remember, the goal is to maintain a clean and user-friendly site structure while optimizing for SEO.

            Unpublished?   404's?

I would not delete them.  Instead, I would enhance them (with permission of the bride and groom).  Ask the bride, groom and family and attendees, the photographer, the baker, the florist, the officiant, the catering service to contribute photos, memories, and more.  If you provide good reasons, people will share these pages, link to them, revisit them, browse them and more.  Imagine links from the photographer's site, bakers, florist, etc...

As your collection for a specific destination grows you have more cred in search, more in bound links, more type-ins and direct traffic to your website.  Allow people to sign up to receive a message a few weeks after the wedding when the page has some enhancements.

Yes, this will take a lot of work but it might be worth it.  It might be an add on that you can use to earn an extra fee. You might be able to get an interface where the bride and groom or their friends can help build and take the work burden off of you.  This might be used in advance of the wedding to communicate.

Just wild ideas as I am not in this business but know how many people like to build things and share stuff.

Category pages - SEO or deindex?

What is the best thing to do with category pages? Should I deindex them or use SEO on them? I use the Thesis theme and the Wordpress SEO plugin. I am just not sure what to do with category pages. Also will they create duplicate content?

              On-Page Analysis Question

Hi, I have a question about the On-Page Analysis report. I am tracking two different keywords for our campaign: "Private Dining" and "Private Dining Sacramento". We are ranked 8th for Private Dining Sacramento but we have an On-Page analysis rating of F. While on the other hand we are not ranked in the top 50 for Private Dining but have an A on-page report. When looking at the on-page report it makes sense that we have an F for Private Dining Sacramento as we don't use that keyword anywhere on the page. We only use Private Dining. However, we are still ranked for Private Dining Sacramento and not for Private Dining. Should we update our keywords/text to use the Private Dining Sacramento keyword instead of the Private Dining? If we add Sacramento will we also get credit for Private Dining because it will still be part of all H,P and A tags we use? Sampe Report | Keyword | Grade | Google US |
              | URL | Current | Change | Rank | Change |
              |   | Private Dining /private-dining | A | No-change-icon | no data |
              |   | Private Dining Sacramento /private-dining | F | No-change-icon | 8 | No-change-icon |

Please review page for on page SEO

I'm working on an adult dating site review blog and am hoping to build links to the category pages. It's a wordpress blog so the posts are categorised by topics. However can you tell me if there is enough content on the page for google to identify what the page is about? The problem is that the content of each category pages is pulled from the posts. What I think is needed is some static text on the page 2-300 words that use the keyword. Here's an example of a page targeting the keywords 'online dating'. http://www.top-10-dating-reviews.com/category/online-dating/
[editor's note -- thumbnails on site may not be appropriate for some workplaces] Will the page rank like this if there are a good amount of authorative links or does the page itself need work?

Rel Canonical Warning on most pages

I have an e-commerce website and have recently started using SEO moz. candygalaxy.com is the site. I have over 2000 pages that i am receiving the Rel Canonical notice for, which is essentially everyone of my pages.  I'm a little bit confused as to what this means, good or bad... I also have over 1800 pages with to many links.  I think this is being caused by the fact that my drop down menus' are quite extensive and begin counted on every page.  Any tips on how to make those menu's links not count?  So that i can reduce the total number of links per page? Thanks

How could I avoid the "Duplicate Page Content" issue on the search result pages of a webshop site?

My webshop site was just crawled by Roger, and it found 683 "Duplicate Page Content" issues. Most of them are result pages of different product searches, that are not really identical, but very similar to each other. Do I have to worry about this? If yes, how could I make the search result pages different? IS there any solution for this? Thanks: Zoltan

              Duplicate page title and content

Hello, I have an ecommerce store where we offer many similar products, and  the main difference could be the color or memory storage. Due to this reason my main problem appears to be be duplicate page title and content.  What is the best way to correct this issue? I cant make them different neither. I always include this particular difference in title or description. I guess it is not enough? any way to fix it? thanks!
