As our content can be quite long at the top, we introduced js anchor scroll going straight to the products, by passing the banner and the content at the top. Can this have an issue on seo?

Yes, this could affect the SEO, as, it might increase the "bounce rate" if the customer can't quickly get to the part of the page that they wanted to read.

We recommend that a web designer fix this to improve this.

We had a company selling garden offices, and this was happening on the blog section, of the website, and we fixed it, as the bounce rate was too high.

          Hi JH,

Typically, collapsing lengthier content on a mobile site (with an option to expand/view the content if desired) in order to improve UX is not considered an issue for Google. However, anytime you're using JS, there's a risk that search engine crawlers won't be able to see what you're doing. You may want to test with JS disabled in your browser to get an idea of what they might be seeing otherwise.

What is the reason for the length of the content at the top of the page? Are you creating that content for users or for search engines? I'm guessing it's not really for users if you're auto-scrolling them past it? This is often something that Google can spot and discount the value of.

I would probably recommend (if possible) a "collapse and expand" approach to lengthy content at the top of the page, rather than autoscrolling down to the products. Show the beginning of that content and offer a "click to expand" if users want to read the full text. You could use JS for that expand and default a non-JS experience to simply display the full content, to ensure that search engines do see the full text. Or if the content includes images, consider removing the images or shrinking them for the mobile version of the site. You may also want to test shortening the length of the content on some of your pages and see whether this impacts performance in one direction or the other.

          Hope that helps!

Redirection of 100 domain to Main domain affects SEO?

              domain seo redirecting domain

Hi guys, An email software vendor managed by a different area of my company redirected 100 domains used for unsolicited email campaigns to my main domain. These domains are very likely to get blacklisted at some point. My SEO tool now is showing me all those domains as "linking" to my main site as do-follow links. The vendor states that this will not affect my main domain/website in any way. I'm highly concerned. I would appreciate your professional opinion about this. Thanks!!

SEO benefits/drawbacks of physical address on site.

Simple question - how much of an SEO impact does NOT having a physical address on your site make? I run a photography business based from home.  For security reasons I don't really want our home address easily available to the public. I have a Google Maps listing (actually seem to have two at the moment, but that's a different matter) and the full address is logged there but is not viewable publicly - just the surrounding area. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What do you think about SEO of big sites ?

Hi, I was doing some research of new huge sites for example carstory.com that have over million pages and i notice that many new sites have strong growing for number of keywords and then at some point everything start going down (Image of traffic drop attached) there are no major updates at this time but you can clearly see even on recent kewyords changes that this site start loosing keywords every day , so number of new keywords are much less that lost keywords. How would you explain it ? Is that at some point when site have more than X number of indexed pages then power of domain is not enough to keep all of them at the top and those keywords start dropping ? Please share you opinion and if you have any experience by yourself with huge sites. Thank You very appreciated 2LC3AxE

SEO - is it site or page

Hi When we're talking about SEO does the search engine only look at the whole site in general or do they look at the individual page when we're talking about SERP? So if you have a keyword "my search term" Does the search engine look at the site first or the page with the term on then rank you or is it the page then the site.

Can Linking Between Your Own Sites Excessively Be a Penguin No-No?

I have a bunch of travel-related sites that for a long time dominated google.com.au without any intensive SEO whatsoever. Aside from solid on-page content and meta tag, I did no link building. However, all of my sites are heavily interlinked, and I think they are linked with do follow links and lots of anchor texts. Here are a few of them: www.beautifulpacific.com www.beautifulfiji.com www.beautifulcooklands.com My idea in inter-linking them was to create a kind of branded "Beautiful" nexus of sites. However, when Penguin hit -- which I believe was on April 27th -- search traffic crashed, and has crashed over and over again. I've read that Penguin penalized over-optimization vis a vis anchor text links. I don't have a lot of inbound links like these, but they are everywhere among my sites. Is it possible that all of my text links have hurt me with Penguin? Thanks to everyone in advance for your time and attention. I really appreciate it. -Mike
