How long does it take for link to count towards DA?

We got a link for a client this week from a 93DA website .. how long will it take to actually show up in DA or will it affect it at all?

We have a problem with a site, ranking above our client with a very spammy link profile - so I'm hoping this could help to bump them back up to #1

Just re read how I wrote the question - it's actually a competing site that has the spammy link profile - that is why I was frustrated they were ranking higher.
But hopefully Penguin refresh will impact them.

Just to add to what David said...if the company above you has a spammy backlink profile then there is a good chance that the Penguin refresh that is coming "in the next few weeks" will hit them hard and your client will be back to number 1! Keep building these high quality links and you will be fine.

Hey Laura,
SEOmoz uses data from OSE for its DA, PA, and other link metrics. Since SEOmoz only updates the index every four weeks (lately it has been more like every two weeks), the data is a little bit delayed and not instantaneous. In addition, the actual crawl takes two to three weeks to complete meaning the data will not necessarily be included in the next update. Basically, the link should show up in OSE and impact your DA/PA within six weeks or so. One thing to keep in mind -- the delay in OSE will not impact the timeframe in which Google considers the link for rankings.
I would definitely spend the next couple of weeks building additional high-quality links and cleaning up the backlink profile. It is rare for one authority link to 'undo' all of the problems that a spammy backlink profile has caused.

Is link exchange always bad? What if I want to add a link for other related products on my site which I do not offer, and the other site does the same for me? Will it be better to rather an article for each other product and link to somebody, than have one page with a list of other products to other sites. For example. We do training. Lets say we offer computer training. We search companies that does health and safety training offer to put their course on our site with a link to them, if they do the same.

Is there value in consistently getting a link from a high DA sites? For example, consistently posting on a blog monthly rather then only doing it once and getting a link/being done with it. Could you list the pros of consistently getting links on high DA sites?

Link quality
Hi, Having read dozens of your blogs and found them highly informative, i have to ask a question. I am kicking oout our SEO company and have taken over the SEO myself with some excellent results. Our SEO providers tell me that links from any site (irrelevent of their DA) are good, providing they are comming from a relevant source. We are in the security industry and according to MOZ, we have a DA of 52. If i can get a link to our site from another company in our industry but they have a DA of 10, is this really beneficial for me? Info i have read in Moz blogs suggest it is n ot a good idea. Greetings! Actually, got an doubt on linking to external site. The thing, i have working for roof marketers site. They have covered roof products. Each of the products have a page along with major keyword. Actually, i do link from other pages[internally]. Meaning,if i see any main keywords in different page then will link that to corresponding page/product[internally].This is what i am doing to get page rank. Now, my doubt. Some of the pages are having link with main keywords which directs to the third party site those who are really producing the products. But, i remove the third party-link which has with main keywords. Since already the site/my client site having pages for that main keywords. But client really want that link. meaning the links which they have given to direct to third party[product producer] site. So what should i do at this case. Can i just past RAW link like [http://www.thirdpartysite.com] or what do i do. But my client wants that link to be in content area.
