      Hello,

I am an NLP health coach. I am starting to work with both life threatening illnesses and minor diagnoses. NLP is a type of personal development. I'm wondering what your opinion of the best domain would be, keeping in mind branding, SEO, and usability/rememberability. The term "NLP" is not well known. I will be doing both phone coaching and in-person coaching. My other website (BobWeikel.com) is not very strong because of the lack of keywords in the domain, but it's easy to remember.

      Options are:

      NLPTrained.com

      BobWeikelHealthCoach.com

      BoiseHealthCoach.com (I'm in Boise Idaho)

      RobertWeikel.com

      or whatever you suggest.

Keywords people get to me with are

          NLP Boise

          NLP Life Coach

          NLP Health Coach

          and related terms.

I want them to find me eventually with terms such as

          NLP Coach

          Health Coach

          Life Coach

Let me zoom up to the 30,000 feet level to offer a much broader perspective than a techie/geeky approach that draws on general principles. The reason is simple: your situation is very particular.

As i'm sure you are aware, NLP is hugely controversial. Many consider it a discredited and crackpot theory roughly on a par with the flat earth society. I'm not saying that's true....only that those doing a quick Google search might reach that conclusion.

The Wikipedia article on NLP has a bone of contention for years. It is currently edit-protected and includes the sentence:

"NLP is unsupported by current scientific evidence, and uses incorrect and misleading terms and concepts."

In a former life, I was the editor of a fitness publication. We published an article that drew on some NLP concepts. It provoked a furious response -- up to, and including, suggestions from otherwise rational people that all those responsible for publishing the article should be fired and blacklisted!

Again, I'm not saying I agree or regret publishing the article.

But given all the above, I can see no arguments in favour of including NLP in your domain name and many against.

I am also not suggesting you hide who you are, what you do, or what you believe.

Only that there is a time and place for everything.

                Hi Bob

On the SEO side, keywords in domain names don't directly matter as much as they used to, especially with Google. That's the general consensus these days.

On the Usability side, it still helps if there is a keyword or two in the domain name, it helps with that remember-ability as you mentioned plus can help with Click Through Rates if it 'does what it says on the tin'.

What the keyword(s) is depends largely on whether Brand or Product/Service is your most important selling point.

If 'Bob Weikel' is your brand that you'd like to be the main selling point, then include those words.

If 'Health Coach' is what you'd like to be foremost known for, then go for that.

And of course, your suggestion of  'bobweikelhealthcoach.com'  includes both brand and service and isn't too long, though more difficult to remember perhaps than either or.  Perhaps drop the Bob and become known as 'w****eikelhealthcoach.com' as a suggestion.

There's no definitive right or wrong, it's what best matches your business purpose & goals.

If you haven't already read it, have a read of a Domain Guide here on SEOmoz which may help you further.

I hope all that does help you out,

                Regards

                Simon

SEO for multilingual and multiregional site seperated with subdirectories on same domain

Hi all, I am working on a website that is multilingual and multiregional.
The site is on a single TDL where the countries are seperated with subdirectories.
I am only working with SEO for one country, so just one of the subdirectories.
Do you guys have any tips on important stuff to remember when doing SEO for this site?
Any pros or cons for this? Ty

Site Not Ranking for Key Term

Question for my fellow Mozers I have a ranking question that I cannot put my finger on. I have a site (visitplano.com) where the client wants to rank for the keyword "Plano". I can't say if the site was previously ranking for this keyword, but I looked into the basic SEO practices and found that the keyword is incorporated in: Domain Title Content There is a lack of internal linking and anchor text within the content External links - 1,558 DA - 46 PA - 55 Currently, the website does not rank for the keyword "Plano". Could someone shed some light on why they aren't ranking or what I may be missing? I would greatly appreciate your help.

                  Duplicate biographies across several domains?

Hey Gang, We've built a niche specific, manually edited legal community that is full of unique content. (While it's ultimately a directory, and that is often viewed as a bad word in these times, ours is a curated source that doesn't allow anyone and everyone to join.) We feel comfortable that it passes the sniff test post-panda/penguin, etc., and its doing rather well to date. The question we have is do we really need to create unique biographies for each of our legal members? Some of our competitors simply use the same bio information that the lawyer has on their own website and copies that to their site. The competitors I'm talking about are LARGE, well-respected, extremely successful folks, like FindLaw. Here's an example: Lawyer's website bio FindLaw website bio Both rank, etc., and the FindLaw code doesn't place any restrictions on their content regarding the bio., and it's an obvious exact match. I get that duplicate content is primarily a concern among one's own URL and the pages across a specific domain, using rel-canonical, etc., but what about two different domains that need to supply factual information that can't be altered? Is it anything we should worry ourselves with? Any tags we should insert in our code with regard to the bios? Thanks!!! Wayne

Alt attributes same as jpg name and keywords?

Hi everyone, Quick question: Is it better to have your jpg name and alt text slightly different to your keywords for that particular page, or is it better to have them slightly differently? At the minute I'm doing them all with a variation on the keyphrase I want to optimize for (long tail and all that...). Any input much appreciated!

                  Three Sites or One?

I have a client who provides three distinct, although related, services. Some of his competitors only provide one of those services, and thus their sites are more saturated with that particular service. Would it be best to develop three different sites optimized for each particular service, or could I achieve the same effect by optimizing different sections of one site for each service?

                  Competitive Domain Analysis

In the competitve domian analysis my domain root (gpscity.com) is showing up as a 404 not found.  My competition is showing up as 200.  My site is live, index and viewable, but I'm wondering if this has an effect on my rankings?  What can I do to test that it's not returning a 404 when the crawlers view my site?
