        Hi Wayne

Thanks for the response - to be honest there about 15 websites all in different industries and sectors..

We want to find a reliable company (possibly India as we have heard they are cheap to outsource too) this is because mainly of the time it takes to outsource all of the link building...

If you do know of any companies please can you let me know ?

        Thanks

        Gareth

            Glad to help....

With regard to rel="nofollow", you'll likely find people divided on this issue.

I personally believe it is worth gathering these links if they are offered to you, as I believe they do hold value. In other words, Google may not count the nofollow link as a weighted backlink, but your anchor text and the domain and page authority of the site you acquired the link from is not being ignored by Google. (And rel="nofollow" will certainly never hurt you if all the other standards are acceptable and in line with good practices.)

That said,  I'd certainly target the sites that pass value before I concentrated all my efforts on a link from a site that uses rel="nofollow".

              Hi Wayne,

This is all great stuff! It is very hard work, I am glad you mentioned that, and it is easy to get down about it, it seems to take forever I bet..

Thanks again Wayne these are all great learning points for me..

Just one last question, I promise -  rel="nofollow" tag does that mean it is not worth building links with?

              Thanks

              Gareth

                No problem, Gareth.

Yes, Domain Authority is certainly an important element when targeting links, but you also want to keep in mind:

                • Make sure there is a defined relationship between the person you are requesting from and your business vertical. In other words, if you sell Accounting Services, don't go after links from  a gambling site. It just looks fishy. 🙂

                • Look at the Page Authority. You want to make sure your link is coming from a page within the domain that also has appeal.

                • Check to see if the page has a rel="nofollow" tag associated with it.

                • Ensure that your target source is not plagued with a lot of links from questionable sources. (remember, just becuase you see a domain with high authority, something questionable could still be occurring to which the engines haven't caught up yet. rankings are not necessarily reflective of day-today activity.

Ultimately, there are always exceptions of which you want to be aware, but if you stay on the straight and narrow, develop a good acqusition strategy, and target reliable sources, you should do just fine.

It's a lot of hard work, so don't get too discouraged if you find yourself not getting responses from a high ranking site 🙂

                  Hi Wayne,

Thanks for answering my question. With the http://www.opensiteexplorer.org is it best to target websites with high Domain Authority? For example if a website that has a domain authority of 100 then they would be really good to use?

                  What do you think?

                  Thanks

                  Gareth

                    Gareth,

You've asked a fairly general question, but I think the best place to start would be familiarizing yourself with a reliable tool such as Open Site Explorer.  This tool is going to allow you to research a websites backlinks, explore reputation in terms of "trust," aas well as the types of neighborhoods the site is assoicated with. It also gives you additional linking targets based on who is linking to your competitors.

REMEMBER: finding trusted sites is not the challenging piece. You need to develop a sound strategy for obtaining these links in an honest, respectful, time efficient manner. I think you'll find that to be your struggle, as we all do 🙂

More specifically, can you tell us what type of industry with which you are associated? There are a lot of variables that you'll want to define before you just begin pursuing a link from a website.

In short, start with OSE, it's going to give you a lot of trusted information on potential link sources.

                    Best of luck!

                    Wayne

Is it a good idea to go to different pet shops in different cities and asked to trade links and help each other out . Will that be beneficial for my pet shop or not?

301 redirect lost page authority & total links how ensure it passes on.

hello, I recently changed from www to non www. I have redirected my whole website so if I type www. it goes to the non-www page. doing a open site explorer I noticed my www. still has the page authority 14/100 with 6 links. where as the non-www page has 1/100 page authority and no links. how do I get the www. to mirror the non-www links?
eg if you goto http://www.finnmoto.com.au/mens-motorcycle-kevlar-hoodie/ it will goto the non-www version automatically, so why does the non-www replicate the page authority / total links attached picture for reference.
Google webmaster has been selected for non-www, its been about 2 weeks.
my domain authority i think about about 21 or more now its 19 aswell. I have a feeling:
nofollow or rel=canonical  has something to do with it but Ill need read into what that does and how to apply. any ideas? uRiJ2Ul.png?1

                      Quickest way to build links?

I'm in furniture e-commerce. I'm not new to e-commerce but I am new to SEO as I used to just hire everything out. What is the quickest way to build or should I say earn links? So far I've just been contacting bloggers and I've built about 4 links through guest posts in the past month. The problem is I can't tell if this is good or bad. I also contacted a niche directory and they liked my content so they are going to include my website in their directory for free next week. Should I continue doing what I'm doing? Do I need to be more aggressive? Suggestions? Thanks guys.

Links from highly relevant but low Domain Authority sites: Yes or No?

We're reaching out to companies that we have a business relationship with (past and present) to find out if they would be interested in linking to us.
All are obviously in the same industry so highly relevant. But some of the sites are low in Domain Authority (with scores of about 15-25).
Should we also ask these sites -- or avoid them?

Any recommendations on where to start with link building for an automotive dealer site? Our ultimate goal is to drive traffic to the inventory pages and increase lead submissions. Should we build links to new and used inventory? Also, any recommendations regarding anchor text would be extremely helpful! Thanks in advance!

                      Link building via Rafflecopter

I received an invite from a company to enter a contest for a chance to win a prize.  The contest is run by Rafflecopter.  Rafflecopter looks interesting because you can place the contest anywhere including social sites and your own website.  Contestants can increase the chances of winning in various ways such as an FB like, tweet, etc.  The largest number of points (for this particular contest) are awarded for linking from your website to their website.  Given that the contestant must add the link to their website and the sponsoring company can not control whether they use nofollow, couldn't this contest approach to link building cause problems for SEO?  If the contest included instructions to copy and paste the html with a nofollow, that would seem like a better solution, but the only guidance given was to link to their home page. Your thoughts? Best,
                      Christopher

Why is my domain authority 1?

Hello all, I have my own MMA news website which I started almost two years ago. After getting a Seomoz account I noticed that my domain authority for this website (www.mmaplanet.nl) is 1! All my other websites have 'normal' domain authority. Does someone know what might be the problem here? Thanks in advance!

                      Link building by inviting bloggers

Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to SEO, and I have a question on a link building strategy for a holiday resort I am working on. The resort has a paintball arena and zorbing facilities at their premises. I want to use this in the link building strategy and the owners have agreed to have an open day for bloggers. Basically the resort will invite 20 local bloggers for a day to their resort. They get to play paintball, zorbing and get to see the resort in exchange for an honest write up about their day at the resort. I am looking at asking the bloggers to write about the event twice (Once before, and once after they visit the resort) with a minimum of 4 links to the website. I want to know how I can identify the top bloggers? What factors should I consider while making a list of 20 bloggers, and how do I measure these factors? Also, is this a good strategy for link building? And please feel free to add anything else you think I am missing out on, or will help in the link building. Cheers! Arjun
