Troubleshooting GA Data Not Matching

If you're having trouble matching up your Site Traffic data with what you're seeing in Google Analytics, start by following these steps:

  1. Check the GA code you added to your Moz Pro Campaign Settings
  2. Confirm it matches the GA code on your site
  3. If it doesn't match then you need to verify which GA code you're wanting to use and update your Moz Pro Campaign accordingly
  4. If it does match, and you're still having trouble matching up your data, continue with these steps
  5. Select the correct date range from within GA to match your Campaign update weekly timeframe
  6. Check under Acquisition > All Traffic > Channels, check the number under Sessions, this should match the data at the top labeled Visits
  7. Check under Acquisition > All Traffic > Source/Medium, check the number under Sessions for Google and the other sources.

This data should match up provided you have no filters and are looking at only organic traffic during the correct timeframe.

Here is a screenshot showing how to check and confirm the overall Visits in Site Traffic. Head to Acquisition > All Traffic > Channels, select the correct data date and check the number under Sessions, this should match the data at the top labeled Visits.

In Google Analytics, be sure you're looking at the organic visits count within the acquisitions screen.
This count should match what you see in your Site Traffic section in Moz Pro.

Here is a screenshot showing how to check and confirm the overall Visits in Site Traffic. Head to Acquisition > All Traffic > Source/Medium, select the correct data date and check the number under Sessions for Google and the other sources.

Within Google Analytics you can verify the counts for Google visits specifically.
This should match the counts shown in your Site Traffic section on the graph.

We gather all of our GA data in one grouping around midnight Pacific Time (PST), so if Google is not finished processing there can be discrepancies then. This can mean that the numbers won't match exactly but should be pretty close.

If the data you’re seeing is not matching up at all, definitely take a screenshot of the full GA view as shown above and send it to the Moz Help Team at help@moz.com.
